Q & A

Q Why is it called Ashton Forest?

A In 1917 the City of New York needed additional water. There were several projects launched to address that critical need. One of them resulted in the flooding of the Esopus Valley to create what would be called the Ashokan Reservoir. Three villages were flooded in the process. Glenford, West Hurley and Ashton. The first two were resettled on the shores of the reservoir, but Ashton was never relocated…until now. You can click on our Photo Gallery section to get a hint of why the word “Forest” is in our name.

Q Where is Ashton Forest located?

A At just 5 miles off the NY State Throughway, Ashton Forest is the perfect location for commuting into New York City and its boroughs. Less than 2 hours by automobile; and for mass transit commuters, the Albany-New York railway, which includes regular Amtrak service, is located in Rhinecliff, just across the Hudson River, a mere 15 minute drive from the site.  Close enough to the rest of civilization when you need it, just far enough away to help you forget civilization exists. Q Can I use my own home plan?

A Sure, but we will review the architectural concept; make sure it blends in with the overall feel of the type of community we’re creating. A stipulation we’re sure you’ll agree with.

Q What is the lifestyle in the Catskill Forest Preserve?

A There is something to suit everyone! Skiing, golfing, boating, hiking or relaxing at a nearby spa. You’ll find restaurants for fine dining or farmer’s markets to pick up your own gourmet dinner.  Click on the Local Interests button on our home page for places to see and things to do.
